About Roasting Plant

Roasting Plant is a unique and innovative coffee company intent on bringing new levels of freshness and choice to coffee lovers around the world.

To accomplish that goal, founder Mike Caswell, a manufacturing engineer and former Starbucks executive, knew he needed to bring every aspect of coffeemaking under one roof- from roasting raw beans to grinding, blending, and brewing beverages on customer demand, at the moment of peak flavor.

What began seven years ago in Caswell's basement- where, to his friends' amusement, he first began tinkering with disassembled vacuum cleaner parts to create a prototype that is now a working reality. The technology that evolved is a proven and patented system called Roasting Plant Javabot™. It transports beans throughout the store, sending raw green beans to the roaster, roasted beans to holding chambers, and small amounts of precisely measured roasted beans to Swiss-made brewers for grinding and brewing. Javabot delivers regular coffee or espresso drinks, crafted of single bean types or blends, caffeinated or decaffeinated-all in the moment, to any customer's specification.

The first Roasting Plant, opened in Manhattan in April 2007, is already a success. Customer response has been effusive, with many people claiming it's the best cup of coffee they've ever had. Roasting Plant's buzz has resulted in media profiles in the New York Times, New York Magazine and a number of blogs, including users on yelp.com recently rating Roasting Plant coffee as the best available in New York.
